Description:Fusiform or ovoid, 1~1.5 cm long, 4~7 mm in diameter. Externally yellowish-brown or yellowish-green, with hooked spines throughout. Summit with 2 relatively thick spines, separated or linked up, base with a fruit stalk scar. Texture hard and flexible, the centre of transverse section showing a septum and 2 loculi, each having an achene. Achene slightly fusiform, relatively even at one side, apex with a protruding remains of style, pericarp thin, grayish-black, with longitudinal wrinkle. Testa membranous, pale grey, cotyledons 2, oily. Odour, slight; taste, slightly bitter
